Canadian Satellite Tv Provider
Lack of regulation allows digital satellite systems to offer extremely low prices which can out-compete cable companies. A subset of Sirius’ music channels are included as part of the DISH Network satellite television service. Sirius Radio is broadcasting more than 1,000 regular season NBA games.
Canadian channels available on Sirius Canada will include the CBC’s English and French radio networks (CBC Radio One, CBC Radio Two, La Première Chaîne, Espace musique) and new channels built from the CBC’s web services CBC Radio Three and Bandeapart. With the launch of Sirius Canada in December 2005, American listeners gained five Canadian-produced stations including CBC Radio One, CBC Radio Three, and Iceberg Radio in English and Première Plus and Bandeapart in French. XM Radio is broadcasting over 120 digital channels of totally new music, news, sports and children's programming direct to cars and homes via satellite.
Sirius currently lags behind competitor XM Satellite Radio in terms of subscribers with just over 2.1 million, well less than XM's current audience of more than five million subscribers. XM Satellite Radio is changing the way people listen to radio in the same way cable changed television. Most XM Radio music channels are unique and innovative XM Originals, which include totally new programming.
XM Canada said it will have shipped 100,000 receivers to Canadian retailers before Christmas. In the US market, there's two players: XM Satellite Radio and Sirius Satellite Radio. The battle to bring a domestic satellite radio service to Canada is heating up on the political front.
Dedicated home satellite radios work only indoors. They plug into your home system, and also use a special antenna, which usually needs to be mounted facing a window. Typically, car satellite radios have an extra input, called a pass-through, that allows you to connect another same-brand component (such as a CD changer). Both Sirius Radio and XM Radio are counting on Canadians' propensity for adopting new digital technologies at ever-accelerating rates.
Satellite radio gives consumers access anytime, anywhere in North America, to between 80 and 100 commercial-free stations.
