Broadband Internet Satellite Services

Sirius Radio is broadcasting more than 1,000 regular season NBA games. Sirius Radio has exclusive satellite radio rights to National Public Radio, carrying two separate streams. The deal with NPR was the first high-profile deal entered into by Sirius. Currently there are 2 Major Players in the Satellite Radio Market. The current players are XM Satellite Radio and Sirius Satellite Radio.

Beginning in 2005 Sirius has exclusive radio rights to cover the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament. Since satellite radio's business model is based on subscriptions, the bulk of the income comes from listeners, not advertisers. DirecTV now gives listeners as part of its service the music channels of XM, but not the news or traffic channels.

XM Radio's headquarters, production studios, and high-end concert/recording studio are located in Washington D.C. XM Radio Online offers all of the XM Satellite Radio channels for which they have Internet performance rights. In October 1997 XM Radio obtained one of only two satellite digital audio radio service licenses offered by the Federal Communications Commission.

XM Radio has strategic alliances with Corus Entertainment, Telesat Canada, General Motors, Honda and Toyota. Satellite radio has many advantages over terrestrial radio, it is capably of delivering a crisp, clear digital signal in a variety of genres from blues to classic rock. Some satellite radio models are designed to work with real-time traffic information services.

Because it's a direct, high-grade connection, a brand-specific satellite radio offers the best sound quality out of all the options you have for your vehicle. Terk makes a single XM radio that works with a variety of stereo brands. To connect it to an XM-ready stereo, you just need to use an adapter cable designed specifically for your brand of stereo. Plug-and-play satellite radios are the most popular options on the market for getting XM or SIRIUS. Galaxie and MaxTrax are licensed satellite-delivered music streams distributed by direct broadcast satellite and digital cable services, requiring satellite dishes or coaxial cable lines not required by the XM or Sirius systems.
