Music streams on Sirius contain almost every type of music genre imaginable, broadcasting 24 hours a day, commercial free. With any Sirius-enabled radio, the user can see the artist and song information on display while listening to the stream. Canadian channels available on Sirius Canada will include the CBC’s English and French radio networks (CBC Radio One, CBC Radio Two, La Première Chaîne, Espace musique) and new channels built from the CBC’s web services CBC Radio Three and Bandeapart.

The National Basketball Association has reached a multi-year deal with Sirius Satellite Radio Inc. to expand radio broadcasts of professional basketball games. The Sirius Radio streams are broadcast from three satellites in an elliptical geosynchronous orbit above North America. XM Radio uses two Boeing HS 702 satellites, appropriately dubbed "Rock" and "Roll," placed in parallel geostationary orbit to provide its satellite radio services.

XM Radio provides excellent coast-to-coast signal coverage to the densely populated regions of Canada through its satellites and a robust ground repeater network installed in major metropolitan areas. XM Satellite Radio NASDAQ: XMSR is a satellite radio (DARS) service in the United States based in Washington, DC and controlled by News Corporation's DirecTV, General Motors, American Honda, Hughes Electronics, and several private investment groups.

Certain third-party channels may not be available over the Internet through XM Radio Online. The primary digital satellite systems providers are the Dish Network, Star and DirecTV. Many of the aftermarket automobile manufacturers offering HD radio ready receiver also are capable of receiving satellite radio signals as well.

Car manufacturers have been installing satellite radio receivers in some models for a few years now. With the release of the first real digital AM/FM radio receiver, satellite radio may have some real competition to worry about. Sirius and XM are offering completely uncensored stand-up comedy and hip-hop programming. HD is the digital system that the U.S. government has approved for broadcasts of local AM and FM radio stations.
